Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque said that Jamaat-Shibir will be banned by Wednesday (July 31) in an executive order.
He told this to reporters at the secretariat on Tuesday (July 30).
Anisul Haque said, if this party is banned, law and order and politics of the country will improve a lot.
When asked by what process Jamaat-Shibir will be banned, the law minister said, ‘The answer to this question is in the speech of Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader. The Prime Minister has instructed me that it is right to take action by tomorrow. I will sit with the Home Minister shortly. There we will decide what legal process will be. I will tell you when we decide.’
The minister said, ‘Look at this brutality, which has been carried out since last July 16. The violence that has been carried out in the name of anti-quota movement, those who are doing anti-quota movement have said that they have no involvement with this violence. In that case, we have information, Jamaat-BNP and Islami Chhatra Shibir, the militants of Chhatra Dal have done it.’
In response to a question, the minister said, ‘It is one thing to prosecute for war crimes, and another thing to ban Jamaat. We have written to change or amend the Jamaat Prohibition Act (International Criminal Tribunal Act) for war crimes. Even if it is amended, it will happen, if that happens, the Jamaat will be tried as a war criminal.
“If a party is banned, it is by executive order. Anisul Haque commented that it is not done by any judicial order.
Regarding the issue of amending the International Criminal Tribunal Act, which has been pending for many years, the minister said, “You will see this later, in view of the conflict-violence surrounding the student quota movement, a decision was taken to ban Jamaat-Shibir in the meeting of 14 parties led by Awami League. After the meeting of 14 parties, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that BNP-Jamaat is involved in a conspiracy to make the country ineffective through anarchy. The 14-party meeting unanimously decided to ban Jamaat-Shibir in order to eliminate anti-national evil forces in national interest.
