Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has alleged that Jamaat-Shibir has used students as a shield for their terrorist activities in the recent violence centered around the quota reform movement.

He made this complaint during a courtesy meeting with Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro at Ganabhaban on Thursday (August 1). Later, the Deputy Press Secretary of the Prime Minister. Nur Elahi Mina briefed the journalists on this matter.

At that time, the ambassador of Italy said, “The terrorists attacked the symbols of modernization of Bangladesh by targeting them.” He lamented the destruction of people’s property and loss of life.

Talking to the Italian ambassador, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina mentioned visiting the hospital to see the injured and giving them proper treatment.

The Italian ambassador stressed that all crimes including destruction of property should be prosecuted. Italian Ambassador praises Prime Minister’s handling of recent violence.

Besides, the Italian ambassador praised the steps taken and implemented by Bangladesh to fight terrorism after the Holy Artisan attack.

The Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary said that the Italian ambassador expressed hope that the government’s anti-terrorism program would advance by establishing justice for the recent violence. The ambassador said that Italy is interested in training the police of Bangladesh in handling various protests.

The Italian ambassador said that when people protest or a crackdown situation arises, the Italian police have enough experience in this case. Italian police have gradually acquired this anonymity since World War II. They want to train Bangladesh Police in this regard.

The prime minister agreed to Italy’s proposal for police training, Nur Elahi Mina said, adding that it was a good proposal. We will definitely talk about how to do this in the coming days. At this time, the Prime Minister highlighted the capabilities of the Bangladesh Police.

Ambassador Antonio Alessandro mentioned Italy’s historical and excellent friendly relations with Bangladesh. The ambassador said that the 200,000 expatriates in Italy are a bridge in the relationship between the two countries. They are playing a major role in the economy of both countries.

He said, I will work to advance the relationship between the two countries. I will work especially in energy, SME, space technology, shipbuilding sector.
