Date: [Current Date]

Washington, D.C. – In an effort to expand its new DC universe, “Superman: Legacy” writer-director and DC Studios co-chief James Gunn has announced three new additions to the cast. Nathan Fillion, known for his role in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” will portray Guy Gardner, one of the iconic figures known as Green Lantern. Isabela Merced, who gained recognition from “Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” has been cast as Hawkgirl, while Edi Gathegi from “X-Men: First Class” will bring the character Mister Terrific to life.

The film, which already features David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, aims to explore Superman’s journey in balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Producer and DC co-chief Peter Safran described Superman as the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, highlighting his kindness in a world that often overlooks it.

Gunn’s decision to introduce superheroes other than Superman in “Superman: Legacy” indicates his intention to re-launch the DC cinematic universe as a fully-formed entity, rather than building it one superhero at a time. Fillion, a frequent collaborator with Gunn, will portray Gardner, one of the individuals who will don the emerald ring of the Green Lantern. The “Lanterns” streaming series for Max will further explore the Green Lantern mythology, featuring Hal Jordan and John Stewart, one of DC’s first Black superheroes.

Merced, who rose to prominence as a child actor in Nickelodeon’s “100 Things to Do Before High School,” will embody Hawkgirl, one of DC’s oldest superheroes. Donning a mask, wings, and medieval weaponry, Hawkgirl first appeared in 1940. Aldis Hodge previously played Hawkgirl’s counterpart, Hawkman, in the character’s live-action feature debut in 2022’s “Black Adam.”

Gathegi, known for his role as Darwin in “X-Men: First Class” and his standout performance in Apple TV+’s “For All Mankind,” will bring the character Mister Terrific to the screen. Michael Holt, an ingenious inventor who operates as Mister Terrific, will utilize his multipurpose mechanical “T-Spheres.”

The highly anticipated “Superman: Legacy” is scheduled to debut on July 11, 2025, with the recent casting news generating even more excitement. However, the announcement also comes amidst negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and production studios, as the SAG-AFTRA contract expiration looms, potentially resulting in an actors strike.

Vanity Fair was the first to report this exciting cast update, which promises to deliver a fresh and dynamic DC cinematic universe for fans to enjoy.
