The Brazilian Sao Paulo announced this Saturday the hiring of the Colombian midfielder James Rodríguez, who was without ties since his departure from the Greek Olympiacos and with whom he signed a contract that binds him until June 2025.

“James Rodríguez is from Tricolor. Welcome,” said the São Paulo team when finally confirming on their social networks an announcement that had been speculating for several days.

The club led by coach Dorival Júnior highlighted in his message that the 32-year-old midfielder, who has gone through clubs such as Spanish Real Madrid, German Bayern Munich and Portuguese Porto, was one of the stars of the World Cup that was played in Brazil in 2014.

“I am happy. It is a great opportunity for me and my family. It is a new phase in my life. I am very happy and with many good feelings. I am a person who likes to play in big teams and Sao Paulo is a great team,” said the midfielder who has played in two World Cups in statements quoted by the São Paulo club in a statement.

The president of Sao Paulo, Julio Casares, explained that the signing was possible thanks to careful planning work by the club and the willingness shown by the Colombian to join the project that the team is building.

“He has a strong bond with Brazil and he already knew the strength of our club,” said the manager, recalling that James Rodríguez was the top scorer in the 2014 World Cup with six goals in five games, including the one that earned him the Puskas Award for most beautiful goal of that year.
