At “I’m a Star – Get Me Out of Here! The Big Reunion” all twelve celebrities from the latest jungle camp season in Australia came together again on Monday and looked back on the events of the last two weeks.
At 10:15 p.m., Sonja Zietlow and Jan Köppen – as so often – handed over to the news format “RTL Direkt” for ten minutes. In the past, this interruption repeatedly caused frustration among jungle fans. On Monday, however, that wasn’t the case for once. The reason: Jan Hofer.

“We now admit to someone who is a bit like the daddy of the news; here is ‘RTL Direkt'”, Jan Köppen moderated “IBES” for a short time. By “Papa of the News” he obviously meant 74-year-old Jan Hofer.

The news anchor, who moderated the “Tagesschau” until 2020 and then went to RTL, was happy to hear Köppen’s words. His humorous and, for many, absolutely surprising answer:
“Thank you very much, my son!”
On social media, some viewers couldn’t believe their ears and promptly started celebrating Jan Hofer. A user wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “It was the best thing ever said on ‘RTL Direkt’. Thank you, Jan Hofer!”
Elsewhere you could even read: “‘Thank You, Son’ was somehow more iconic than the entire season.”
“You can’t help but like Jan Hofer! So cute!” another X user enthused. One thing is certain: there were comparatively few tweets of complaints from “IBES” fans against “RTL Direkt” that evening.
As the program continued, Jan Hofer also had a lot of negative and unpleasant things to report – including King Charles III’s cancer, which was announced by Buckingham Palace just a few hours earlier.
A crazy conspiracy theory that is currently circulating in the USA was also taken up. Accordingly, the singer Taylor Swift, who broke a record at the Grammys on Sunday night, is an “agent” of the Democratic Party. In view of this, one viewer on social media wondered:
“Taylor Swift is an agent and Jan Hofer greets his ‘son’ Jan. How surreal will this year be?”

One person also makes a suggestion directly to RTL: “Let Jan Hofer moderate the jungle camp next year, then he can drop a message once a day and then we can continue with the trash.”
However, it is questionable whether this will actually happen. Jan Hofer has already taken part in “Let’s Dance” as a candidate, but “I’m a star – get me out of here!” As is well known, it is of a different caliber – even “only” in the moderation position.
On the last day it’s all on the line again for the stars. In their last individual tests they have the chance to win a final big meal for themselves. The finalists compete separately and fight for food for the team and small specialties for themselves. A star shows nerves.
