Your love for animals moves mountains – and opens wallets…

The sanctuary of Heike Schneider (59) in Rheinbach near Bonn (NRW) was hit hard by the flood catastrophe of the century in July 2021: nine drowned animals, uninhabitable apartments and stables, mud on 1000 square meters. The damage: around 200,000 euros!

But then celebrity help came: Jana Ina Zarrella (46) has been involved in animal welfare for years and visited the sanctuary “Anna eV” with her husband Giovanni (45) shortly after the flood.

“The water destroyed everything here, the story touched us very deeply. Heike lives here, sacrifices her whole life for the animals. So it was natural for us to help,” said the model to BILD.

In 2021, as an ambassador for the Fressnapf initiative “Tierisch Engaged”, she presented a check for 23,100 euros – and the Zarrellas rounded it up to 30,000 euros from their own pocket!

Jana Ina: “My job consists of a lot of glamor and red carpet, but my life is not like that. I come from a very normal background and was raised to give back whatever you get in life. So I am happy to be able to help others today. With my face for the initiative, I can draw even more attention.”

Today, around two years later, the sanctuary has been rebuilt with around 500 animals – and operator Heike Schneider owes this above all to her prominent supporters: “Without Jana Ina and Giovanni we would not have made it. Their notoriety meant that in the end we were able to win 140,000 euros in donations. I am incredibly grateful to them.”

Zarrella is a dog mom herself

Jana Ina is a passionate dog mom herself. In 2021 she adopted a mixed breed dog from a killing station. Little Cici not only comforted her over the loss of her beloved dachshund Tyson, who died at the age of 17, but also inspired the presenter to do even more for four-legged friends.

“I know exactly what it means to take care of an old dog. I gave Tyson the food twice a day with an injection and held him while walking so he could pee because his muscle strength was decreasing,” Jana Ina told BILD. “How many times have I slept downstairs with him at night so he wouldn’t get lost if he was awake at night. That’s why I’m so grateful that there are people like Elke, because sick and old animals are not adopted.”

A friendship has now developed between Jana Ina and the operator of the sanctuary

On her second visit to the sanctuary, she did not come empty-handed either, handing over 2000 euros again as the face of the initiative. This is intended to finance a new heating system, among other things.

Jana Ina: “I’m glad that the animals have a place here where they can have a nice life – until their last day.”
