Zemin, according to Chinese media reports, died of leukemia; he was 96 years old
L’ex leader cinese Jiang Zemin died at the age of 96. This was reported by the official media, according to which the elderly president – who led China in a phase of profound transformation – died due to a leukemia and multiple organ failure.
Zemin, who had been mayor of Shanghai (1985) and general secretary of the Communist Party (1989), was president from 1993 to 2003, and is considered one of the main architects of the new assimilation of the capitalist economy into the Chinese communist system. We owe him, among other things, the entry of the country into the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2002.
