Jangseong-gun has opened the ‘Jangseong era of the National Brain and Blood Vessel Research Institute’. Jangseong-gun expressed its welcome on the 6th when the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency announced that the ‘National Brain and Blood Vessel Research Institute establishment project total project cost of 76.9 billion won’ was confirmed.
The National Institute of Health, which received the project to establish the National Cardiovascular Research Institute in Jangseong from the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2020, reported that it would need to expand by more than KRW 50 billion, which is more than the KRW 47.5 billion initially set as the total project cost during the basic plan establishment process, and conducted a feasibility study in accordance with relevant laws.
As a result of the re-investigation conducted from May 2022 to July 2023, a plan was derived to build a building with a land area of 24,255㎡ and a total project cost of 100.1 billion won at 448 Samtaeri, Nam-myeon, Jangseong-gun.
Afterwards, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and the National Institute of Health further reviewed and discussed the scale of construction, and on the 6th, they announced that the land area would be 24,255㎡, the floor area would be 13,837㎡, and the project cost would be 76.9 billion won.
Kim Han-jong, the governor of Jangseong County, said, “The project cost has been reduced by about 23% compared to the results of the feasibility study last year, but since the land area is the same, it can be expanded in the future,” and added, “We plan to focus our administrative power on securing additional budget and increase it as planned.”
With the total project cost confirmed, construction is expected to gain speed. According to Jangseong County, the government budget for next year includes 720 million won for basic research and design costs for the establishment of the National Cardiovascular Research Institute, which will provide further momentum for achieving the goal of completion in 2029.
Meanwhile, the National Cardiovascular Research Institute is a national medical institution that carries out the following as the control tower of the national cardiovascular center: △national cardiovascular disease research and development, △securing clinical information on cardiovascular diseases, and △developing and researching cutting-edge technologies for public interest. With the establishment of Jangseong, Jeollanam-do, it will form one of the three axes of the national healthcare infrastructure industry along with the Osong Life Science Complex in Chungcheongbuk-do and the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Advanced Medical Complex.
It is also expected to have effects such as creating employment for about 10,000 people, increasing regional vitality, and attracting population. It is also expected to create a healing economy linked to healing travel destinations such as the Chukryeongsan cypress forest, Baekyangsa Temple, and Jangseongho waterside path.
Jangseong County was the first local government to challenge itself to host the National Cardiovascular Research Institute in 2007, and confirmed its establishment in July of last year, 16 years later.
