Jaisalmer: There is an atmosphere of joy and happiness across the country today on the occasion of Lord Krishna’s Janmashtami. Meanwhile, we have brought for you such an incident related to Rajasthan, which shows Krishna’s connection with this state. Lord Krishna, who lived 5000 years ago, is also said to have a deep connection with Jaisalmer. Jaisalmer, a border district world famous for its sand dunes located on the Indo-Pak border, has a deep connection with Lord Krishna.
This is how Jaisalmer was established
According to information received from historians, Jaisalmer was established in 1156 AD with the construction of Sonar Fort on Trikut Hill. It is said that Jaisalmer was established by the 116th son of Lord Krishna. The Yaduvanshis (Bhati) ruled Jaisalmer. The Maharawal here considers himself a descendant and Dewan of Lord Krishna. Today this Sonar Fort is included in the UNESCO World Heritage. It is the only living fort in Rajasthan where people live. Around 400 families live in this fort, whose population is around 2000.
Krishna dug the Jaisalu well with the Sudarshan Chakra
Along with Sonar Durg, another historical incident of Lord Shri Krishna is also associated with Jaisalmer. According to Jaisalmer historian Tanesingh Sodha, in ancient times, the route from Mathura to Dwarka passed through Jaisalmer. Once Lord Krishna and Arjun were going to Dwarka through this route. While walking on the way, they stopped for some time on Trikuta Hill (where Sonar Durg is now built). During this time, Arjun felt thirsty and since there was no source of water anywhere nearby, Lord Krishna dug a well here with his Sudarshan Chakra and quenched Arjun’s thirst.
Krishna used Sudarshan Chakra to quench Arjun’s thirst
After drinking water, when Arjun asked Lord Shri Krishna that a well has been dug here but what will be its use in the future? Then Shri Krishna predicted that my descendants will come here and establish their kingdom and rule. The name of this well is Jaislu Kuan, which is also mentioned in Muhnot Nainasi Ri Khyat. Muhnot Nainasi (1610-1670) was a medieval historian and the Diwan of Marwar’s Rathore ruler Jaswant Singh. He also wrote a book called Brief History of Rajasthan.
Jaislu well is closed since 1965
Historian Mehta Ajit has written in his ‘Bhatinaame’ that the settlement of Jaisalmer was predicted on a stone inscription long ago. It was written in the stone inscription, “Jaisal named Jadupati, was a king in Yaduvansh, in the middle of Kini period, he lived here”. This means that a king named Jasal will come here and make his capital. This is what happened. Maharawal Jaisal laid the foundation of Sonar Durg in Samvat 1212 on this Trikuta Garh and built a huge fort.
Even today there is water in Jaisalu well of Sonar Durg
Jaisalu well located in Sonar Durg fort is about 5000 years old, which has been quenching the thirst of the residents of Jaisalmer for centuries. This well has been closed since 1965 but it is said that there is still water in this well.
