A few hours from the first career semifinal in New York, Jannik Sinner returned to the P1 training court (the one generally used by the higher seeds) to prepare for the challenge against Jack Draper.
A peaceful eve, balanced between concentration for the great goal to pursue and the lightness that must necessarily accompany the rest days in a Slam. “Draper – explains Coach Vagnozzi to the Italian press present at Flushing Meadows – he is one of the most promising young players on the circuit. We have known him for a long time and we expect a challenge full of pitfalls. He has had several injuries in recent years that have slowed his growth. Vagnozzi is particularly satisfied with how the South Tyrolean handled the difficulties of a tournament that began with great fears and doubts: “There are always difficulties within a team – he explains -, but in the difficulties it is essential to try to remain united, as much as possible. And this is what we did. We stayed on target day after day, also because some things you can’t control and we couldn’t do anything but stay on top of things. We were good, but above all Jannik was good because he is the one who goes on the field. We have a clear conscience, for us it is a closed chapter”.
From the doubts of the first match, to the great performance with Paul and Medvedev: “The thing I liked the most was the crescendo I saw in these five matches. On a mental level and in terms of attitude, each time he got more and more into the match. Little by little he found the positive energy of the crowd and he started smiling again even on the court, and this is the thing that makes us the happiest”.
