NEW YORK. Jannik Sinner is looking for his second career Slam win. The world number 1 faces American Taylor Fritz in Flushing Meadows.
THIRD SET. It starts along the lines of the second set, in relative balance. In the sixth game Jannik gets two break points, but Fritz saves. And then it is the American who breaks the balance on Sinner’s serve, taking it 4-3. The American, with some difficulty, holds serve and goes up 5-3. Sinner also holds and it’s with Fritz on 5-4 serving for the set. Jannik, at the right moment, snatches the break and ties it at 5-5. The situation is reversed, with Sinner ahead 6-5 and Fritz serving to stay in the match. Jannik earns two match points: on the first he closes.
SECOND SET. Jannik keeps his concentration and starts like a rocket, leaving Fritz scoreless in the first game. The American also holds his serve well and the score is 1-1, after 5 consecutive games won by Sinner. The game is balanced, with Fritz having improved his level on serve.
The balance is broken at 5-4 for Sinner, with Fritz serving and conceding two set points. Jannik only needs one: 6-4.
FIRST SET. Jannik starts off very strong and breaks serve in the first game. Then he consolidates by closing his service game to love. Sinner’s impact with the final is excellent. Fritz however reacts: he authoritatively holds his service game and in the fourth game, with Sinner having difficulty putting the first serve, he takes home the counter break that ties the score. At 3-3, Sinner manages to break serve once again with a nice drop shot and goes up 4-3. Then he consolidates and goes up 5-3, with Fritz serving to stay in the set. But Jannik raises the level and, with the third break, takes the set.
