The dominance of Jannik Sinner is now evident. The world number 1 has secured a huge advantage over his pursuers, thanks in part to his victory at the US Open, the second Grand Slam of his career. The Italian seems unstoppable and has created an incredible gap between first and second place. 9980 points for the talent from Val Pusteria in the ranking, followed by Alexander Zverev at 7075 points who has surpassed the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who stands at 6690 points.
The situation regarding Sinner and his pursuers
Jannik is already certain to hold the top position in the world ranking at least until the Paris-Bercy Masters 1000 (that is, until November 3, the day of the final of the French indoor hard court tournament). The Italian will lose 1090 points across Beijing, Shanghai, and Vienna and is virtually at 8890 points, not even counting the points that could come from these tournaments.
The pursuers will have to go beyond their limits to try to take the throne from Sinner, who can sit comfortably, at least for now. Zverev, with 550 points to defend, could max out at 8525 points if he manages to win in Beijing, Shanghai, and an ATP 500 event between Vienna and Basel. Alcaraz, on the other hand, with the same reasoning applied to the German, can reach a maximum of 8420 points at Bercy (with 270 points going out for the Spaniard). This wouldn’t be enough to catch the South Tyrolean, who in the meantime continues to break one record after another.
