CINCINNATI. Jannik Sinner beats Russian Andrey Rublev in three sets (4-6, 7-5, 6-4) and reaches the semifinals at the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati. A great victory for Jannik, who had started badly but was able to come back and “avenge” last week’s defeat in Montreal.

In the first set Rublev has no problems, thanks to a very solid serve and many errors by Sinner, who tries to react by recovering a break, but in the end loses 4-6.

The second set is very hard fought. Jannik starts very well, with a break, which is however immediately returned by Rublev. The game continues in balance until 5-5, when Jannik scores another break. Then he holds the next service game and closes 7-5.

The third set is all in Jannik’s hands. The momentum of the match has shifted and the world number 1 soon goes to 5-1.

Rublev tries to reopen it with a counterbreak that takes him to 5-3, then holds his service game and goes to 5-4.

At that point it’s Sinner’s turn to serve for the match and he doesn’t miss.
