Fritz feels the pressure of his first Major final, and as the host as well. The American immediately gives up his serve to Sinner, but in the second game comes the immediate counterbreak. The tension for Taylor, however, does not ease and Jannik takes advantage. At 3 all he breaks serve twice in a row and takes home the first partial 6-3.

Sinner is also superior in the second set, in which Fritz holds on to serve until 5-4 for Jannik, when the latter makes the decisive break, closing 6-4 with only one unforced error in the entire set. In the third, Fritz goes for broke, pushes harder and in the sixth game risks a break that could cost him the match. However, the American gets out of a bad situation and, in the next game, breaks his opponent’s serve, taking a 4-3 and serve lead. At 5-4 for Fritz, here is the counterbreak that will prove decisive for Sinner. Jannik holds serve in the next game and, in response, ahead 6-5, triumphs in front of the Flushing Meadows crowd.
