Japan and Malaysia Reach Quarter-Finals

Japan and Malaysia are both through to the last eight at the 2025 BWF Sudirman Cup Finals with wins on Tuesday (29 April) morning, becoming the fifth and sixth teams, respectively, to guarantee their quarter-final spots in the badminton mixed team world championships behind held in Xiamen, People’s Republic of China.

Team Japan whitewashed France 5-0, while Malaysia beat Australia 4-1, only dropping an inconsequential last women’s doubles rubber.

It puts both teams on two wins from two in Group C – Japan having a perfect 10-0 match record and having only dropped one game across all 10 matches in total, while Malaysia are 9-1 in matches.

They joined hosts China and Thailand from Group A as well as Republic of Korea and Chinese Taipei from Group B as teams already guaranteed quarter-final places.

In the evening action in Group D, Denmark beat England 5-0 and Indonesia saw off India 4-1 on Tuesday evening. With the Danes and Indonesians both winning, all eight quarter-finalists are known with one tie to spare for every team.

Each of those four qualified pairs are due to play each other in the final group games to determine seeding for the quarter-finals.
