The Secretary General of the Government of Japan, Yoshimasa Hayashi, announced at the end of the NATO summit in Washington, that the leaders of Japan and South Korea, Fumio Kishida and Yoon Seok-yul, reached an agreement on the need to deepen interaction with the alliance.
Hayashi said at a press conference in Tokyo: “The leaders of the two countries emphasized the inseparable interconnection between the security of the Euro-Atlantic region and the Indo-Pacific region, and agreed to deepen NATO-to-NATO interaction . NATO declared in the final statement of its summit held in Washington from 9 to 11 July, on the 75th anniversary of its founding, that it intends to deepen cooperation with countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
The statement said, “The Indo-Pacific region is important to NATO, since developments there have an impact on Euro-Atlantic security. We are working to deepen dialogue to address regional challenges and our practical cooperation to strengthening, including three main projects in the areas of support for Ukraine.”
