Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida plans to announce an economic aid package for Central Asian countries that would create a new trade route across the Caspian Sea that would connect the region to Europe.

As reported by Day.Az, citing the newspaper “The Japan Times”, the Prime Minister will visit Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia from August 9 to 12 and will present the plan at a meeting with the leaders of the five Central Asian states in Kazakhstan.

According to the newspaper, the initiative is aimed at strengthening Japan’s ties with China and the region, where Russia has traditionally held strong positions. Official Tokyo hopes that the new export route will give Central Asian countries greater economic independence.

In addition to transport infrastructure, the plan also includes support for decarbonizing the economy, with technology and loans from Japanese companies to be used for measures such as helping to process natural gas.
