On July 4, 2024, His Excellency the Ambassador of Japan to El Salvador, Mr. HOSHINO Yoshitaka, the Mayor of La Paz Este, Mrs. Marcela Pineda, the Climate Change and Resilience Manager of World Vision El Salvador, Mr. Kenneth Rivera, the President of the Association for Community Development Canton Ánimas Abajo (ADESCOCAA), Mrs. Mabel de Los Ángeles Mejía, together with members of the community, participated in the inauguration of the Drinking Water Supply Project in Canton Animas Abajo, located in the district of
Zacatecoluca, municipality of La Paz East.

There are approximately 123 families and two schools in the community that will benefit from the newly built drinking water system, which is part of the Non-Reimbursable Financial Assistance Program for Community Projects for Human Security (APCS) of the Embassy of Japan.
The total amount of the project is USD $220,518.10; where the Embassy of Japan decided to contribute for the execution of this project an amount of USD $147,930.00, which consisted of the construction of external works on the ground of a well and pumping station, supply and installation of a distribution network (10.25 km), direct pumping station (45 GPM- 5HP pump) and external supervision and auditing. There was also support from the Municipal Government, who contributed an amount of USD $11,868.61.00 which consisted of preparing the file
project technique, also financing the supply and installation of the electrical substation and the project sign and plaque. World Vision El Salvador contributed an amount of USD $6,631.39 which consisted of the delivery of materials for the electrical substation. The community provided the valuable unskilled labor to carry out the works, a contribution valued at USD $43,588.10, in addition to financing the supply and installation of the home connections and meters, for a total of USD $10,500.00.

It should be noted that, at the end of the project, ADESCOCAA was trained in the operation and maintenance of the entire system in order to prolong its useful life. Through the APCS scheme, the People and Government of Japan have been supporting more than 452 community and municipal initiatives for more than 30 years, and providing support to more than 1.6 million Salvadorans; support that translates into approximately $40 million dollars in
donations for project development.
