Hanna Himura is a famous Japanese wrestler. The 22-year-old committed suicide in May 2020. The police said Hanna took the decision after a young man had spread lewd comments on social media.
This incident caused great shock in the country. People kept saying that stricter laws should be introduced against such cyber-bullying and insulting people.
Currently, the Japanese parliament has passed a law that imposes a one-year prison sentence for cyberbullying. Cyberbullying offenders who engage in such acts can be jailed for up to one year or fined up to ¥300,000.
It should be noted that currently in Japan such offenses are punishable by less than 30 days in jail and a 10,000 yen fine.
