The El Porvenir Community Development Association, the Municipal Mayor’s Office of Jiquilisco, World Vision El Salvador and the Embassy of Japan in El Salvador, through its APCS program (Non-Refundable Financial Assistance Program for Community Human Security Projects), participated at the inauguration of the “Drinking Water Supply Project in Colonia El Encanto, El Taburete Jagual Canton, Municipality of Jiquilisco.”

Pérez, the president of the El Porvenir Community Development Association (ADESCOEP), Mr. Omar Pineda, the Country Director of World Vision El Salvador, Lic. Roberto Villacorta and members of the community.

With this new project, more than 1,170 inhabitants are directly benefiting; thus improving the quality of life of the inhabitants, both children, adults and the elderly, providing drinking water in quantity and quality.

Since the origin of the community, they had never had drinking water in their homes.

During all this time, in order to be able to supply themselves with the vital liquid, some families had deep artisanal wells in their homes, and to draw water they had to do this activity with at least two people.

Some families that had horses used them to draw water from the well and thus somehow reduce the time and effort of drawing water due to its depth. In summer the water in the wells dries up and the situation became more critical. In winter it was possible to collect rainwater to carry out daily activities. Families that did not have a well had to buy water from a neighbor who had a well.

Faced with such a need, the El Porvenir Community Development Association, with the support of the community, sought support from the Municipal Mayor’s Office of Jiquilisco, who directed them to seek support from the Embassy of Japan in El Salvador, in order to carry out the water introduction project. drinking in the community.

So that all families today have a drinking water system in their
housing, a total investment of USD $187,959.11 was made, which was allocated for the execution of the entire project.

The Embassy of Japan in El Salvador decided to contribute a total of USD $128,636.00
which was used for the construction of the storage tank (100 m3
), installation of perimeter fence and exterior works on tank land, construction of elevated tank
of storage (8 m3), installation of impellence line and installation of
discharge, installation of distribution network, supply and installation of 2 Hp submersible pumping equipment, construction of a pump house and also supervision and external audit.

The Municipal Mayor’s Office of Jiquilisco contributed USD $12,289.83 that was used for the
study of soil mechanics, electrical installation, purchase and installation of a sign and commemorative plaque and preparation of a technical folder.

World Vision El Salvador contributed USD $11,300.00 which was used for part of the
supply of those affected at home.
In addition, the community of the El Encanto neighborhood, El Taburete Jagual canton, contributed
USD $35,733.28 that was used for part of the supply and installation of connections
household workers and unskilled labor throughout the project, who worked
hard so that its inhabitants today can enjoy drinking water in the comfort of their homes.

With this type of projects that the Embassy of Japan in El Salvador carries out through
of its APCS program, it seeks to improve the quality of life of Salvadorans and above all
of the most vulnerable communities in the country, under the concept of “human security”, the
which urges to protect the right of people to lead a happy and dignified life, free from fear
and misery, through their protection and the development of their capacities.
