Tokyo will maintain close ties and coordinate actions with Washington, regardless of the outcome of the US presidential election, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said in response to a question about the possible impact of US President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the election race on policy towards the DPRK and Ukraine, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“The Japan-US alliance is the foundation of our country’s foreign and security policy,” he said, noting that Tokyo is closely monitoring the developments across the ocean.

“In any case, it is important that, regardless of the outcome of the US presidential election, we will maintain close ties with the US government, responding to various situations that may arise in the future and making necessary policy adjustments together with the US government,” Hayashi added.

Earlier, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also noted that Tokyo would be monitoring the situation overseas, as “the Japan-US alliance is the foundation of diplomacy and security” of his country. He also expressed the opinion that Biden sought to make “the best political decision.”
