The Japanese Ambassador to Benin, proceeded with the NGO “Solidarity Group for Universal Development”, to the signing of a grant contract for the construction of boreholes equipped with human motor pumps in the municipality of Zogbodomey. The ceremony took place on the morning of Wednesday August 16, 2023 at the Embassy of Japan in Cotonou.

What is it about : The difficulties of the populations of the municipality of Zogbodomey to obtain drinking water will soon be combined with the past thanks to the dynamism of the NGO ”Solidarity group for universal development”. With funding amounting to more than 45 million FCFA, the Japanese government through the “Aid for local projects” program has decided to relieve these populations with the construction of five boreholes equipped with a human-powered pump. The localities benefiting from this project are: Agbogbohonou (district of Avlamè); LonmèGilberhoué (district of Massi); Tanwé-hessou center and Gbahoué EPP (district of Tanwé-hessou) then Oungbéhoundo center (district of Zoukou) in the municipality of Zogbodomey.

What do they say :For the president of the NGO ”Solidarity Group for Universal Development”, Léopold Adjè, this drilling project will benefit more than 6,419 inhabitants of the municipality of Zogbodomey. “The realization of these works, beyond the function of providing drinking water to the communities, will certainly contribute to the promotion of the income-generating activities of our brave women”, he suggested. He also expressed to the Ambassador of Japan, all the gratitude of the populations of Zogbodomey, who for a long time have been in lack of drinking water despite the government’s efforts in this sector. President Léopold Adjè, also reassured the Ambassador, on behalf of the NGO, to honor the commitments to provide more than 6 million FCFA as a contribution to the realization of this august project and also to assume his share of CONTRACT. After the signing of the contract by the two parties, the Japanese Ambassador to Benin, Tsugawa Takahisa, spoke of the essential need for access to drinking water in rural areas. According to him, the government of Japan has decided to finance the project to build five boreholes in the commune of Zogbodomey in order “to enable people to have drinking water, to prevent water-borne diseases and to improve their living conditions “.

The diplomat, in his speech, reassured that this financing agreement will be concretized in a few months through the construction of hydraulic infrastructures. He finally congratulated the NGO initiating the project for its commitment to the development of Benin and invited all the actors concerned to accompany it in the realization of the activities of the project.

Between the lines : A family photo put an end to this solemn ceremony which took place in the presence of a representative of the town hall of Zogbodomey. On behalf of the beneficiary populations, he thanked the government of Japan for its many achievements in their commune and wishes to have more in other sectors.
