Japan has assured Bangladesh of cooperation in dealing with the risk of earthquakes.

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief said Tuesday (March 5) at the secretariat. Japanese Ambassador Kiminori Iwama gave this assurance during a courtesy meeting with Mohibbur Rahman in his office.

Referring to Japan as one of Bangladesh’s development partners, the state minister called upon the ambassador of Japan to cooperate with technology support related to cyclone center and disaster preparedness and related research development.

The ambassador of Japan praised the success of Bangladesh in dealing with natural disasters and said that Bangladesh has set a unique example in the world in dealing with sea storms and floods.

The ambassador also said that experience exchange activities will be taken up with joint training of those related to disaster management in Bangladesh to deal with the earthquake disaster.

He said that Japan is helping Bangladesh in disaster management as well as mega projects. The two countries are currently working to maintain a strategic cooperative relationship.

Kiminori Iwama said that Japan will help Bangladesh in improving the living standards of the local people around the Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar.

He said that giving shelter to the Rohingyas has put pressure on the livelihood and environment of the local people of Cox’s Bazar. The Japanese government will provide financial and technical support to solve this problem. Japan will continue to help Rohingyas in Bhasanchar too.
