In the second half, Japan’s persistence paid off as Risa Shimzu put them ahead in the 50th minute with a skillful chip shot. Finally, in the 81st minute, Hinata Miyazawa added another goal to her tally, solidifying Japan’s victory.
The match witnessed moments of exhilaration and missed opportunities from both teams. Karina Saevik came closest to equalizing for Norway in the 77th minute, but her attempt narrowly missed the target. Despite their efforts, Norway couldn’t match Japan’s intensity and creativity.
With this win, Japan advances to the quarterfinals, further solidifying their position as a strong contender in the Women’s World Cup. They will face the winner of the Round of 16 match between Australia and Italy.
