Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced sanctions against Russia over its military operation in Ukraine. In particular, Tokyo imposes a ban on issuing visas to Russians and freezes the assets of individuals and organizations from Russia. In addition, the export of products to organizations from the Russian Federation associated with the military sector will be stopped.

Mr. Kishida announced the new restrictions at a press conference. “We are freezing the issuance of visas to citizens of the Russian Federation, freezing the assets of financial institutions, and restricting the export of goods to organizations associated with the military sector,” the Japanese prime minister said (quoted by TASS).

He clarified that the energy sector was excluded from the package of sanctions in agreement with the United States and other countries. The Japanese Prime Minister evaded a direct answer to the question of the possibility of Russia’s disconnection from the international SWIFT system. Fumio Kishida also did not comment on the future of negotiations on a peace treaty with the Russian Federation.

Yesterday, February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a military operation in Ukraine. The Kremlin claims that it is being carried out to “cleanse” the country from the Nazis. Against this background, the United Kingdom and the United States have already expanded their sanctions against Russia, and the EU countries have also agreed on the introduction of new restrictions.
