The Brazilian government has announced an agreement with Japan for the reciprocal exemption of visit visas between both countries.

This exemption, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, benefits people who travel for a period of up to 90 days. The rule will enter into force on September 30 and will have an initial validity of three years.

“With this measure, Brazilian and Japanese tourists will be able to visit Japan and Brazil without having to obtain visas,” the Itamaraty statement said.

In May, President Lula met with Japan’s Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, who announced at the time that Japan would “initiate procedures for the introduction of the short-stay visa waiver for holders of common Brazilian passports.”
