Jason Benetti Named Detroit Tigers TV Play-By-Play Broadcaster

In exciting news for Detroit Tigers fans, the team has announced that Jason Benetti will be taking over as the team’s play-by-play television announcer starting in the 2023-24 season. Benetti is a nationally renowned broadcaster, known for his work covering MLB, college football, and college basketball.

Before coming to Detroit, Benetti worked for NBC Sports Chicago as the White Sox TV broadcaster, as well as doing national MLB coverage on Peacock and covering college sports and MLB for Fox Sports. He gained fame for his partnership with legendary NBA star Bill Walton, calling college basketball games together and even teaming up to cover a White Sox game.

Benetti will continue to work his national broadcasting jobs while also covering a minimum of 127 Detroit baseball games next summer. Longtime radio broadcaster Dan Dickerson will step in to handle the duties in front of the camera when there is a scheduling conflict.

Benetti, who hails from Illinois, graduated from Syracuse with a broadcasting degree in 2005. His inspirational story includes a diagnosis of cerebral palsy as a child, which prevented him from playing sports but did not dampen his interest. Instead, he found his passion for sports broadcasting and worked in various media roles before landing his big break with ESPN.

He entered the baseball world full-time in 2016 as the White Sox play-by-play announcer and has since expanded his coverage to include national games and even Olympics coverage. He will bring his wealth of experience to the Tigers broadcasts, and fans can look forward to his call of the game starting in the 2023-24 season.
