This time, they’re stepping onto Segel’s Apple TV+ series, ”Shrinking,” for a heartwarming episode. In a sneak peek, Jimmy (segel), arrives at Sophie’s (Smulders) home hoping to purchase her trusty yellow Volkswagen. His well-meaning but somewhat oblivious neighbor, Derek (Ted McGinley), tags along, attempting to “help” by liberally banging on the car’s exterior in an unconventional inspection.
As Jimmy and Sophie officially meet, she introduces herself and Jimmy offers a polite “nice to meet you.” Despite admitting to know “nothing about cars,” Jimmy tries to impress Sophie with some made-up automotive jargon. Stepping in to offer his “wisdom,” Derek declares that Sophie’s vehicle, while beloved, isn’t exactly in pristine condition. He then surprises everyone by instantly offering to buy the car for Sophie’s asking price of $5,000, leaving both Sophie and Jimmy somewhat speechless.
When Sophie steps away to retrieve the necessary paperwork, a bewildered Jimmy questions Derek’s speedy negotiation tactics. Derek’s response? “No wedding ring, modest house, kids bike in the yard,” he explains,”You really want me to shake down some nice, single, and,uh,incidentally, very cute mom, just for a couple hundred bucks,Jimmy? You spend that in lotion.”
He casually adds, “Morally good,” as a justification for his unorthodox approach.
