Jason Sudeikis Addresses Ted Lasso Season 5 And 6 Future

Jason Sudeikis has revealed that the future of Ted Lasso remains undecided following the season four finale, noting that no writers’ room has been formed for a potential fifth season while expressing a personal desire to continue the Apple TV comedy.

The status of a fifth and sixth season for the hit series remains up in the air after the conclusion of its fourth-season run. Speaking on an episode of the Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso podcast, series co-creator and star Jason Sudeikis addressed whether the comedy will return to the pitch after its ten-episode fourth season finished airing on October 7, 2026.

While Sudeikis made clear that he “would like to” continue the story, he cautioned that no formal production steps have been taken. Apple TV has not yet ordered additional episodes, leaving the creative team without a script or an active writers’ room.

The fourth season saw Ted return to coach the Lady Greyhounds, a second-division women’s football team. With the finale resolving several character arcs—including Roy Kent accepting a management position at Chelsea and a pregnant Keeley Jones moving there with Roy—fans have looked for signs of a fifth installment.

The series stars Jason Sudeikis, who also executive produces alongside cast members Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift. The ensemble also welcomed Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsey, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely to the cast for the fourth season.

The season four finale delivered an ending with Roy taking a new job as manager at Chelsea and a pregnant Keeley Jones moving there with Roy. Rebecca Welton retained majority ownership of A.F.C. Richmond.

Yeah, I just don’t know. We haven’t started a writers’ room or anything like that.

Sudeikis added that he would “assume” the streaming service would be open to continuing if the cast and crew were aligned, but emphasized that it takes a village to mount each season. Co-creator Brendan Hunt, who portrays Coach Beard, noted that Sudeikis plays the cards close to his chest and that the creative team has received no official indication about the show’s future.

Reflections on the Personal Impact of the Apple TV Comedy

During the podcast conversation, the discussion turned toward the personal toll and emotional significance of making the series. Sudeikis opened up about how working on the show affected him during challenging periods, describing the project as a vital emotional anchor.

Some form of self-harm. Flat out.

Reflecting on those heavy feelings, which he compared to emotions last experienced during his youth, Sudeikis noted that it carried me as sometimes the work has done in the past. He initially viewed the third season as a definitive ending before returning for a fourth round after a lengthy hiatus.

Sudeikis also touched on his past nine-year relationship with Olivia Wilde, reflecting on their time together after meeting at a Saturday Night Live party in 2011, their 2013 engagement, and their 2020 separation. The former couple share two children, son Otis, born in 2014, and daughter Daisy, born in 2016.

Apple’s Timeline and the Road to Future Episodes

Industry watchers comparing past production cycles note that Apple renewed the series for its fourth run in March 2025, which then premiered in August 2026. For now, cast members including Rex Hayes and Aisling Sharkey have voiced support for another season, with Sharkey jokingly telling fans to contact the networks directly for locations and street rallies, while viewers await an official decision from Apple TV.
