The mano a mano was absolutely beautiful. On the road to Bourg-en-Bresse (Ain), the peloton played for a long time with the breakaways… and lost. The Dane Kasper Asgreen (Soudal – Quick Step), who had made the trunk from the first kilometers of this 18th stage, kept a few seconds ahead of the line, ahead of his runaway companions and the best sprinters of the peloton. An increasingly rare scenario, but which will delight fighters, frustrated during this edition which will have given pride of place to the racing car Jasper Philipsen and the climbers.
Asgreen allows Patrick Lefevere’s team to win its first stage on this Tour 2023, more than delicate until then. His sprinter Fabio Jakobsen had to leave the race quite quickly, touched after a fall. As for the French Julian Alaphilippe, he never managed to convert his multiple breakaways. The 28-year-old Dane is ahead of Pascal Eenkhoorn (Lotto Dstny) and Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X) on the line.
