The Chennai High Court today ruled in favor of the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s Boise Estate in a case filed against her government.

After Jayalalithaa’s demise, the Vedha Illam where she lived during the last AIADMK regime was nationalized. Jayalalithaa’s heirs Deepa and Deepak had filed a case against this in the Chennai High Court. During the trial, Deepa and Deepak argued that the state did not have the power to legislate on the acquisition of personal property and that the ban on turning the Vedha house into a memorial should be lifted. Further, it was argued that it was wrong to fix the compensation at the rate of 67 crore 90 lakh rupees per house without consulting the heirs.

At the same time, the then government said it had sought the views of all parties before acquiring the house and had taken steps to turn the house where Jayalalithaa lived, a role model for women, into a memorial house. It was also reported that Deepa and Deepak were not supportive when Jayalalithaa faced various issues, both politically and personally. Judge Seshasai, who is hearing the case, will deliver the verdict at 2.15 pm today.
