This November 27, mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Jaymes Schulte was captured in Miami for allegedly sexually abusing several minors in Colombia.

This was reported by the National Police, an entity that, together with the United States authorities, managed to find the whereabouts of the former athlete.

Known in the sports field under the nickname ‘The Underdog’, the man originally from Wyoming had a brief moment of fame due to his two wins and four losses in the world of MMA. However, his name began to be heard on social networks for other reasons.

According to an official statement, the American citizen was in contact with a network of pimps on ten different occasions, specifically between 2018 and 2022, dates on which his entry into the country was recorded.

His arrest was facilitated when multiple recordings published on pornographic sites were discovered.

The investigation also indicates that the former wrestler had sexual relations with minors between the ages of 4 and 13 through these networks. On the other hand, he agreed with the victims to pay for the meetings, offering between 150,000 and 300,000 Colombian pesos.

However, he ended up paying them a smaller sum and using his force to intimidate the minors into performing certain sexual acts.

“It was known that when they did not agree to carry out the abuse (…) he locked them up and brutally beat them,” reads the report, which was based on some testimonies from the 18 registered victims.

Multiple complaints and evidence

The investigation lasted nine months in which the competent authorities analyzed some videos that the subject published on the Internet.

In the conclusions, it was determined that Schulte supplied them with narcotics “to get these minors to agree to be recorded during the sexual act to later make publications on their own page with explicit content.”

Reports and complaints regarding this type of behavior began to emerge in 2018, specifically when several victims from Asian countries explained to the authorities that the subject had recorded them without their consent and had uploaded them to websites in order to to monetize said recordings.

There will be more than 2,000 cases of child sexual exploitation in 2023

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, between 2021 and 2022 more than 8,000 processes related to this crime entered the system, and by August 2023 more than 2,000 had been initiated.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), sexual exploitation largely involves migratory flows in which there are illegal groups that control human trafficking and sexual exploitation networks.

On the other hand, another associated factor, according to the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF) is domestic violence, child labor, and alcohol or drug abuse by caregivers.

Added to this is the fact that behind it there are asymmetrical power relations based on gender and different types of violations by the exploiters, which gives them a position in which they can manipulate the victims.
