Two months before the opening match of the Rugby World Cup (between September 8 and October 28) in Saint-Denis, between France and New Zealand, three-time world champions, we are beginning to know a little more about the opening ceremony which will precede this match.

Co-written by actor Jean Dujardin with show designer Olivier Ferracci, this ceremony will be staged by Nora Matthey from l’Endroit. It will start at 8 p.m. and should last around an hour before the match kicks off at 9:15 p.m.

Philippe Lachaud, Guy Savoye, Alice Renavand…

According to the organization’s press release, actor Jean Dujardin, actor Philippe Lachaud, chef Guy Savoy and prima ballerina Alice Renavand will be reunited on stage. They will be surrounded by more than 30 other guests and personalities and more than 200 volunteers. This ceremony “will celebrate France and its culture in a live theatrical performance”. It will also be a question of highlighting “the French know-how and art of living, its rich heritage and its passion for sport, while commemorating the bicentenary of rugby”, the foundations of which were laid in 1823 by William Webb Ellis.

Jean Dujardin, Alice Renavand and Guy Savoy had already drawn lots for the World Cup pools on December 14, 2020 at the Palais Brongniart in Paris.

The World Cup will be broadcast in 182 countries. It will be “broadcast live on the Rugby World Cup website in countries that do not have a local broadcaster,” the statement also said.
