Never before has a Norwegian woman won an Olympic medal in shooting. Jeanette Hegg Duestad could change that on Friday.
The 25-year-old from Tønsberg has two fourth-place finishes from the Tokyo Olympics and was one of the big medal favorites in the Olympic final for the 50-meter rifle.
The girl from Tønsberg shot consistently well in both kneeling and prone positions before starting fantastic in the standing position.

However, too many shots in the 8 and 9 range in the second half of the standing position ultimately resulted in another fourth-place finish for Duestad at the Olympics.

Norway is still without a medal in the Paris Olympics.

Shot Up
Duestad was not far from the lead after the kneeling shooting. 154.7 points put her in fifth place, with 1.3 points to the podium.
However, a good second round in the prone position meant she moved up one spot on the scoreboard.
– She is in fourth place and is definitely in the medal race here, noted TVNorge commentator Henrik Jonassen.

– This is where it really gets exciting, said expert commentator Bryhn before the standing shooting.
With 0.8 points to medal placement, Duestad was serious about making her shot count.
Could she secure Norway’s first medal in the Paris Olympics?
– It would have been really great if Jeanette could pull this off now. She has been one of the absolute best in the world for a long time, Bryhn said as it started to get intense.
Duestad started the round fantastically and moved up to second place with several high tens.
But unfortunately, there were also some shots in the 8 and 9 range, meaning she narrowly missed the podium.
Thus, the medal slipped away again this time.
