Jeanette : «Many young artists have covered my songs, but none surpasses me»

by time news

Jeanette has never been told what to do or say. And whoever has dared to try it has been scalded. She is such a determined, confident, persevering and yes rebellious woman that she doesn’t even care if her decisions are good for business or not. Without they are hers, they are the ones that she had to take. For better or worse. And if she has to put up with a mistake, she does it at ease. It would seem that nothing and no one is capable of frightening her. But naturally, even a woman as strong as she is trembles when her death looks into her eyes. “She was in Colombia, two months ago,” says the singer on the phone from her house in Castellana. « I suffered a terrifying shooting and I almost spanked it. I have been to South America many times, and I recognize that there are dangerous countries. I’ve always been very careful and I don’t go alone to strange places, I don’t even go sightseeing. But nothing like this has ever happened to me.” She was going with Amaya Saizar (of the Bravo group) in the back seats of a semi-armored car to the Cali stadium where the two were performing that night, and “since it was very hot and I didn’t want to put on the air conditioning because it spoils my voice, we lowered the windows,” says Jeanette. «We had five minutes left to get there when suddenly, a motorist stopped next to us and pointed a gun at us so that we would give him our mobile phone. He started asking for more things, but suddenly he started shooting. Our driver pulled out another pistol that he was carrying at his feet and the shooting ensued. I instinctively protected myself with a leather notebook with which I was fanning myself, and a bullet grazed me. All the windows of the car were shattered. I have to admit that at that moment I was very calm, it was very curious. When I got out of the car was when I realized what had happened, that’s when the tremors started. And then to sing! The public knew what had happened because the news had spread like wildfire and was everywhere. But when I went on stage I didn’t comment on it. My family tells me not to return to Colombia, but I told them that I am going to return, that nothing happens! Jeanette is made of steel. — She Is she ready for the Sonorama? —I’m very nervous because everyone is telling me that the festival is the milk, that I have to prepare a lot because it’s super important, that I can’t look bad… And of course, I said ‘damn, but this What is it?’ (laughs). I’ve been in music for many years and I’m going to do a show like the ones I usually do, with the novelty that I’ll bring four guests. I take three guys who are more like rockers, who don’t make music similar to mine. They are Gabriel, from Shinova, Alberto, from Miss Caffeina, Coque Malla and Chloé Bird, a girl from Cáceres who accompanies me on my tours and who sings like angels. —There may be many young people who become fans at this concert, and you will notice it in their numbers on Spotify. “I have many followers. Although half don’t go to concerts anymore because they’re older, a lot of young people also follow me. Many of my songs have been covered by young artists, ‘I’m a rebel’, ‘Frente a Frente’, ‘Por qué te vas’… But none of them beat me. —During your most popular years, did you ever suffer from machismo? I imagine that she found out about what happened to Marisol, with whom she was often compared… —I also started out very young, but no one ever laid a hand on me. They have had brutal respect for me all my life. Marisol’s career has been taken away by others too much, she delegated more than necessary. They abused her in every way, and that’s why it doesn’t surprise me at all that she wanted to leave music and get away from all this. It’s a shame, because she was a woman of enormous beauty and tremendous natural charm. People have a vision of me as if I am a good and sweet girl, and I am the opposite. I have a character… I am explosive. When I said, it was no. And I don’t have to explain. Everyone makes mistakes and I haven’t been perfect, but I think I’ve been able to tell the good people from the bad. You have to be very careful with the people you work with in this industry. MORE INFORMATION Azkena and Sonorama, two great anniversaries between hard rock and ‘indie’ —I think it had a great impact on the Spain of the seventies because we were at a time when foreigners were admired, and you turned the tortilla being a foreigner who sang in Spanish. -Exact. The fantastic musical productions with which I recorded and the wonderful arrangements of the compositions also influenced, and of course, my aesthetics. I think I was the first woman to come out singing on TV dressed in jeans. Those from Hispavox told me that this was not well seen, that I better buy a little dress (laughs). And of course my voice, which was not magnificent but it was different, special. Manuel Alejandro told me that he had never seen a singer do so much with so little. “That’s why he’s still touring the world fifty years later.” —Yes, after Sonorama I’m going to New York! It also influences that I have taken great care of myself. I have kept my voice in shape and I have not gained weight over the years, as has happened to others (laughs). —The ‘Brexit’ has complicated your life when it comes to traveling. —Yes, because although I live in Madrid I have British nationality, and every time I go back to Spain I have to go through the non-EU queue, which is much longer. Mecachis at sea with Brexit! Jeanette and her husband Laszlo Kristof Instagram Mourning at a festival: “I’m ready to continue walking through life alone” When Jeanette spoke with ABC about her performance in Sonorama, her husband, with whom she has been all her life, was very sick. «Yes… he is dying. But I am prepared to continue walking alone through life», said the interpreter of ‘Por qué te vas’. “He has had health problems for a long time and I know he will not last much longer. He is now isolated because he has caught a very serious and contagious infection. He doesn’t reason anymore, he doesn’t recognize people and you can’t even touch him, so I’m home. Some doctor has been angry with me for not being with him, but I’m afraid to go in there. And he is so bad, that it is of little use. It is a very difficult situation, but I have already become iron. Of the hard, hard ». Last Friday, her husband finally passed away. But Jeanette will fulfill his obligations and will be on the stage of the Aranda de Duero festival this Thursday. “Are you interested in modern productions?” Have you listened to Rosalia? “Yes, that girl has her charm, her style. And I see that she is everywhere. But record companies don’t spend money on big productions anymore, and I don’t know what to tell you. Everything is done with a computer and to take for granted. If they offered me to make a new album with good production, I would do it. But I see what they offer me and I’m not interested. There are also many artists who ask me to collaborate with them, who tell me that they want my voice in their songs. But I have to tell almost everyone that I don’t like their song. She makes me feel bad, but that’s how it is. I’m very ‘no’, honestly (laughs). And the older I get, the more. It also happens to me with the TV. They propose many things to me but almost all of them are contests, and I’m fed up with contests. They even called me from ‘Sálvame’, and do you know what they told me? That they only wanted to contact me to ‘assess’ my presence on the show. What are you going to value me? No, no, I’m going to be the one to value you. And I told them that I’m not going to that shit show, for no money. And they no longer answered (laughs). I didn’t even go to the María Teresa Campos program, the whole world has gone…
