Actress Jedet has won a legal battle following a sexual assault that occurred at the Premios Feroz awards in 2023.

Zaragoza, January 29, 2023 — After a three-year legal process, actress Jedet has announced she has won her trial against producer Javier Pérez Santana for sexual assault and unjust humiliation. The actress shared the news on her social media channels, describing the ruling as the end of a deeply impactful chapter in her life.

“Today, after three years, a court ruling puts an end to a process that has deeply marked my life,” Jedet wrote. “After three years, I have won the trial for sexual assault and unjust humiliation against the person I denounced.” She acknowledged the emotional toll the case has taken, stating, “It hasn’t been easy. These three years have had a real impact on my mental health, my work and my personal life. It has been a constant burden, an open wound that accompanied me everywhere.”

Jedet also expressed empathy for other survivors, noting the challenges of reporting such crimes. “I deeply empathize with why many women decide not to report: because the processes are long, complex and because one has to relive what happened over and over again. Because reporting also has a price,” she said, adding that pursuing justice was “necessary” and “a way to protect each other and to put limits where there have been none for too long.”

Organization’s Response Criticized

The actress also leveled criticism at the organization behind the Feroz Awards, alleging they mishandled the situation following the assault. “I cannot fail to point out, with sadness, the attitude of the organization of the Feroz Awards,” Jedet stated. She accused them of leaking her name to the press while she was traveling from Zaragoza to Madrid, forcing her to go into hiding for weeks.

Furthermore, Jedet claims she was not offered support from the organization and was only invited back to the awards the following year after her team “insisted.” She expressed disappointment that an organization that champions women’s and LGBTQ+ rights seemingly failed to uphold those values in her case. “Today for me this nightmare ends. I am closing a very hard stage, with the peace of mind of having told the truth and of having trusted in justice. Now it is time to heal, move forward and live without fear,” she concluded.

According to the AICE, security personnel intervened immediately upon learning of the assault, and the association’s president, María Guerra, stated that the perpetrator would be permanently banned from AICE events.
