The Scream Franchise Loses Jenna Ortega
Jenna Ortega, one of the main leads in the Scream franchise, is officially not returning for the latest installment, Scream VII. This news comes just one day after Spyglass fired star Melissa Barrera from the movie, leaving the future of the franchise in question.
Ortega’s departure, along with Barrera’s firing, has cast doubt on the future of the franchise. Christopher Landon remains on board as the director for now, but the next steps for Spyglass are unclear.
Sources have revealed that Ortega’s departure has nothing to do with Barrera’s firing, which occurred after she made controversial social media posts. Ortega’s representatives informed Spyglass prior to the actor’s strike that she would not be returning. It is also believed that the actress asked for what the movie company deemed was too much money during the renegotiating of her option.
Barrera and Ortega played sisters in the franchise since 2022’s Scream, and the two actresses were seen as instrumental in revitalizing the series. The 2022 reboot of Scream saw significant success at the box office, grossing $137.7 million globally, and its sequel, Scream VI, topped $168.9 million globally.
