The HBO series ‘The Idol’, which marks the acting debut of Jennie from the group ‘Blackpink’, has been nominated for the Choreography Award at the 76th ‘Emmy Awards’.

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS) announced the nominations for the 76th Emmy Awards on the 17th. Among them, the HBO series ‘The Idol’ was nominated in the ‘Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming 2024’ category.

‘DI Idol’ is set in Los Angeles (LA) and deals with the love and passion of a popular pop idol and the world of the music industry. It was produced and starred famous pop singer The Weeknd.

Jenny appears in the drama as Diane, a friend and backup dancer to the main character Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Melody Depp).

The nominated scene is where Jennie and Lily-Rose Depp dance to the song ‘World Class Sinner’.

In a video released by HBO after the release of the first episode of ‘The Idol,’ Jennie said, “They didn’t give me much time to learn the choreography used in filming. But for me, it was something I’ve always done, so I was very grateful.”

‘The Idol’ is a work that has garnered much attention in the United States as it is directed and produced by Sam Levinson, the director and producer of the popular drama ‘Euphoria’. It also garnered attention from fans both domestically and internationally as Jenny’s Hollywood debut.

However, after its release, the drama had to suffer from harsh criticism from foreign media. British music media Rolling Stone said, “‘The Idol’ is worse and more harmful than rumors suggest,” and “It’s horrible and cruel. It looks at young female stars with a predatory gaze.”

In Korea, the drama was embroiled in controversy over its sexuality, with some claiming that the scenes of Jennie wearing revealing clothes and dancing in close contact with male dancers were suggestive of sexual acts. It was also pointed out that Jennie’s screen time was less than expected. The drama ended after one season due to low viewership ratings.

The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, USA on September 15th at 5 PM (local time).
