Jennifer Garner Opts Out of Met Gala, Citing Scary Experience

Actress Jennifer Garner has decided to catch and release her invites to the Met Gala, revealing that she has not attended the iconic event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art since 2007—and she recently explained why.

“I went to the Met ball exactly one time,” Garner shared with Vogue in the Dec. 11 episode of its “Beauty Secrets” series. “I found it a little scary so I haven’t been back.”

Despite her reservations, the 13 Going on 30 actress looks back fondly on the 2007 event where she wore a magical red Valentino gown and was his date for the evening, describing it as “majestic and special.”

The year that the 51-year-old accompanied Valentino to the event, the evening’s theme was “Poiret: King of Fashion,” honoring the late designer Paul Poiret—an artist known for modernizing women’s style.

Garner isn’t the only celebrity to opt out of the Met Gala, as both Demi Lovato and Zayn Malik have concurred that they likely won’t ever return. The Heart Attack singer even recalled the “terrible experience” in a 2018 interview with Billboard.

It seems that the Met Gala can be too intimidating for some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, but for now, Jennifer Garner will continue to let her invites go.
