Jennifer Hudson and Hollywood Stars Honored at Annual Event
Jennifer Hudson spoke about support and motivation during her appearance at Variety’s Power of Women on Sept. 23 in Beverly Hills, California. The EGOT winner reflected on the impact of motivation, stating that a small amount of encouragement drives her ambitions. Alongside Hudson, honorees included Sharon Stone, Melissa McCarthy, and Universal Studio Group Chairman Pearlena Igbokwe.
Hudson was recognized both for her namesake talk show—which recently returned for its fifth season—and for her philanthropic efforts through the Jennifer Hudson Foundation, which supports families and communities in need. During the event, she expressed a commitment to reciprocating the backing she received throughout her career, noting that true power should foster creativity, collaboration, and opportunity for others.
Reflections on Advocacy and Early Encouragement
The gathering also featured recognitions and reflections from other prominent attendees. “Summer House” alum Paige DeSorbo received the Courage Award for her advocacy on behalf of abuse survivors, discussing her work with the Purina Purple Leash Project in partnership with RedRover. Issa Rae was named Entertainment Entrepreneur of the Year, using her speech to highlight her commitment to uplifting her community and platforming diverse stories.

On the red carpet, Bryce Dallas Howard shared an early encounter with Natalie Portman when the two were teenagers at Stagedoor Manor, a performing arts camp. Howard recalled that Portman offered words of validation after they performed together in A Midsummer Night's Dream,
an interaction that helped shape her confidence in pursuing a career in the industry.
