  • The former German national goalkeeper Jens Lehmann made a splash at the Munich Oktoberfest.

  • On Monday night, he was stopped by the police on suspicion of drunk driving.

  • His driver’s license was revoked.

Once again, legal trouble for Jens Lehmann. The former German goalkeeper was stopped by the Munich police on Monday night. Lehmann was reported to be drunk behind the wheel, according to “Bild”. Previously, the former scandalous professional had celebrated exuberantly at Oktoberfest.

The 54-year-old reportedly swayed heavily and smelled of alcohol. Lehmann was said to be so drunk that he could not properly blow into the breathalyzer. Ultimately, blood was drawn from him. The results are still pending.

Driver’s license revoked

Before that, the ex-Arsenal goalkeeper partied heavily in the shooting festival tent. A police officer told “Bild”: “It’s crazy that he got behind the wheel after that. There are police officers all around the Wiesn who are supposed to prevent exactly such drunk driving.”

The Munich public prosecutor’s office confirmed the incident. Chief prosecutor Anne Leiding stated: “Mr. Lehmann was subjected to a police check due to noticeable driving behavior with a vehicle in the city center of Munich on September 23, 2024, around 1:30 am.” The police officers noted “a strong smell of alcohol and an unsteady gait.” Lehmann’s driver’s license was confiscated.

Not the first time in contact with the police

Only in December, Lehmann had once again clashed with the law. At that time, he was not satisfied with his view of Lake Starnberg from his home. Without further ado, he started sawing the roof beam of his neighbor with a chainsaw. Lehmann was fined around 400,000 francs. In 2009, he also had to give up his driver’s license because he drove at 102 km/h through Munich, where only 60 km/h is allowed.

This could mean further legal consequences for him due to his misconduct. In response to a “Bild” inquiry, Lehmann did not want to comment: “I can’t say anything about that at the moment.” What punishment the former national goalkeeper of Germany faces now is still unclear. However, this incident is likely to be costly as well.
