This year, the number of visitors to Jeonnam beaches reached 630,000. Jeollanam-do announced that 630,000 people visited 58 beaches during the 51 days of summer this year, which closed on the 25th, up 4.0% from last year. By city and county, Wando, Yeosu, and Goheung were the most visited, and fortunately, there were no fatalities.

The reason for the increase in visitors despite the adverse conditions for beach operation, such as the long-term rainy season, extreme heat waves, and jellyfish infestation this summer, is analyzed to be the result of the operation of theme-based beaches that highlight the special features of each beach, such as healing, activities, and pet vacations. Various events that contain the unique characteristics of Jeollanam-do, such as the Marine Healing Festival and the fishing experience event, have caught the attention of vacationers.

By city and county, Wando ranked first to third with 220,000 users (35.6%), Yeosu with 190,000 users (30.2%), and Goheung with 50,000 users (7.5%), followed by Sinan and Boseong.

Among the beaches, the ocean healing famous ‘Wando Sinji Myeongsa Ship-ri Beach’ held various events that were pleasing to the eyes and ears, such as a sand sculpture exhibition, a flying board show, and an ocean healing chicken and beer festival, and recorded the most visitors among the 58 beaches that opened, with 255,000 visitors. This was followed by ‘Yeosu Ungcheon Beach’, which is easily accessible and offers free ocean leisure sports, with 75,000 visitors, and ‘Boseong Yulpo Beach’, which has a seawater green tea center so you can enjoy an indoor and outdoor vacation at the same time, with 43,000 visitors.

South Jeolla Province also spent 2.9 billion won on hiring 300 safety personnel, deploying 4,000 pieces of safety equipment including lifeboats and life jackets, jellyfish rescue, improving convenience facilities, and conducting water quality and environmental surveys to thoroughly manage safety, recording zero fatal accidents this year, following last year.

Park Tae-geon, head of the Jeollanam-do Island and Ocean Policy Division, said, “I hope that many people who visited Jeollanam-do beaches this summer took home a bundle of good memories,” and added, “In 2025, we will present more diverse and unique content and differentiated services to attract more visitors.”
