South Jeolla Province is relieving inconveniences to residents by expanding the Wondong-Cheongryong provincial road. South Jeolla Province announced on the 26th that it has completed the expansion and paving of the Wondong-Cheongryong provincial road (Provincial Road No. 825), a long-awaited project for local residents.

The completion ceremony on this day was attended by approximately 400 people, including former South Jeolla Province Governor Kim Young-rok, Muan County Mayor Kim San, South Jeolla Province Council members Na Gwang-guk and Jeong Gil-su, Muan County Council Chairman Lee Ho-seong, Muan County residents, and construction officials. The ceremony was held in the following order: progress report, commemorative speech, and completion ceremony.

The Wondong-Cheongryong provincial road, which directly connects National Route 1 and the entrance to Nam-ak New Town, is the 38th road to be completed and opened since the inauguration of the 7th elected governor, Kim Young-rok.

The existing local road between Wondong and Cheongryong was narrow and had many curves, which increased the risk of traffic accidents and caused great inconvenience to residents.

Accordingly, South Jeolla Province has been pushing forward with an expansion project since 2018, investing 35 billion won to extend the road by 3.6 km and expand it to two lanes in each direction.

The travel time between Jeonnam Provincial Office and Jeonnam Arts High School will be shortened from 20 minutes (12 km) to 10 minutes (5 km), which will not only improve traffic conditions but also reduce logistics costs and greatly alleviate inconveniences for residents. In particular, through this construction, the road alignment has been greatly improved and safety facilities have been reinforced to eliminate the risk of traffic accidents.

In addition, starting with the Wondong-Cheongryong provincial road section, the Nam-ak-Imseong provincial road expansion project currently underway is expected to be completed in 2025, and when Provincial Road No. 825 is finally completed, it is expected to become the cornerstone of a 100-year plan for the development of the southwestern region from Nam-ak to Muan.

It is expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy by relieving traffic congestion by dispersing vehicles commuting from Nam-ak and Oryong areas to Muan-eup and Hampyeong, as well as improving accessibility to major industrial hubs such as the South Jeolla Provincial Office, Muan International Airport, and the MRO Industrial Complex.

Governor Kim Young-rok said, “I congratulate the completion of the Wondong-Cheongryong provincial road expansion project, which will lead to regional coexistence, and I will do my best to make Muan-gun the administrative center of South Jeolla Province and the gateway for international exchange in the southwestern region.”
