According to Jeonbuk Self-Governing Province, the completion ceremony for the new construction of ‘Geumseon Baekryun Village’, a residential facility for the disabled located in Yongbok-dong, Jeonju-si (Yongbok-dong, Jeonju-si, facility manager Kim Chan-woo), was held on the 24th.
At the completion ceremony on this day, about 100 people, including Governor Kim Kwan-young and Jeonju Mayor Woo Beom-ki, along with 30 people with disabilities living in the facility, major guests, sponsors, and local residents, attended and celebrated the new beginning of Geumseon White Lotus Village.
The newly built facility was relocated after the narrow, old facility was demolished and newly designed so that disabled people can live in a more comfortable and safe environment.
The construction period took about a year, and the interest and cooperation of many people contributed from design to construction. The newly built residential facility for the disabled is a living space for the disabled and was designed to meet individual needs, with safety and convenience as top priorities.
In addition, there are various support spaces within the facility to help disabled people live independently, and it is expected to serve as an important resource for the local community.

Meanwhile, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province is conducting joint research with the National Institute of Ecology, a specialized ecological research institute, for the conservation and coexistence of a sustainable natural ecosystem.
On the 24th, Jeonbuk Self-Governing Province signed an ‘Industrial Revitalization Business Agreement for the Conservation and Coexistence of the Natural Ecosystem of the Nation’ in the presence of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Governor Kim Kwan-young and National Institute of Ecology Director Cho Do-sun in the conference room of Jeonbuk Self-Governing Province Office.
Through this agreement, the two organizations will expand the Toha complete aquaculture technology first established by Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province to the environmental improvement industry for maintaining a healthy aquatic ecosystem, and will strive to develop mutual technologies that can simultaneously pursue eco-friendly aquaculture and natural ecosystem environmental improvement. The main contents of the agreement include △improving eutrophication appeal by utilizing green algae consumption habits, △cooperation by industry sector to increase aquaculture production, and △cooperation in local biological resources research, education, and exhibition.
In order to strengthen the competitiveness of inland water aquaculture, Jeonbuk Self-Governing Province began its own test research and technology development in 2019 and established the nation’s first mass-culture technology (4 patents) in 2022, creating aquaculture that has high added value and can be easily farmed by anyone. An industrialization establishment strategy has been prepared and is being implemented.
Toha is a general term for freshwater shrimp, and there are about 7 species in Korea. Toha, which is generally recognized by the majority of the public, is ‘Saebangi’, a representative high value-added variety, and Jeonbuk Self-Governing Province possesses complete farming technology for this Saebangi.
Birds play the role of ‘decomposers’ in the natural ecosystem, consuming animal carcasses and microalgae in the water. Due to these characteristics, the National Institute of Ecology is conducting research on using birds to remove moss and improve turbidity in ponds and lakes. Starting in 2024, preliminary experimental research on improving the aquatic ecosystem environment using microalgae was conducted with the Jeonbuk Self-Governing Province Fisheries Technology Research Institute, and significant results were achieved.
Based on these achievements, through this agreement, we expect to jointly pursue various tasks, such as increasing production by utilizing the birdbaby’s consumption habits of microalgae, and achieve various results that will achieve eco-friendly aquaculture production and the preservation of the natural ecological environment.
Through this agreement, Jeonbuk Self-Governing Province is developing the people’s livelihood and economy through various expansions of the Toha industry, conservation of the local natural ecosystem and conservation research on unique species, promotion of related professional education and information exchange by institution and department, and provision of attractions to the public through the operation of mutual exhibition halls. The plan is to prepare comprehensive plans and procedures to revitalize various industries.
Governor Kim Kwan-young said, “We expect that new vitality will be injected into the inland water aquaculture industry, which is gradually shrinking, through the advancement of new breeds of sabaeng into various industries, and that expertise will be improved through exchange and cooperation in each field with the National Institute of Ecology.” He added, “We expect that the local environmental field will continue to improve in the future. “We will not spare any interest and support for its preservation and development,” he said.
