The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province has carried out diplomatic activities to strengthen its global network. The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province has carried out public diplomacy activities of the local government, such as strengthening its global network during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

According to the Jeonbuk Autonomous Province, Governor Kim Kwan-young and the diplomatic corps visited Paris, France, where the Olympics are being held, for two nights and four days from the 31st of last month to the 3rd of this month, and despite the short schedule, carried out various activities to elevate the status of the Jeonbuk Autonomous Province.

Governor Kim and the Jeonbuk delegation visited UNESCO headquarters immediately after their visit to France and met with Deputy Director-General Xing Qu. There, they explained the value of preserving “Hanji,” for which they had submitted an application for UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage registration last April, and discussed ways for UNESCO and Jeonbuk Autonomous Province, which has many UNESCO-registered heritage sites such as dolmen sites and Baekje Historic Areas, to collaborate, such as hosting heritage exhibitions and forums.

Governor Kim introduced the event by saying, “Hanji is a traditional paper with a history of over a thousand years, and is a precious heritage deeply rooted in Korean culture, art, and daily life.”

He continued, “Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province is making efforts to preserve and pass down Hanji, and we hope that through this registration application, Hanji can establish itself as a global intangible cultural heritage of humanity,” and requested the Deputy Secretary-General’s special attention to the registration of the heritage.

The Jeonbuk delegation then held a meeting with overseas Koreans and those stationed in Paris, explaining that the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province plans to support Korean business leaders who can play an important role in the global economy and to grow together with them. They also asked for their active participation in the World Korean Business Convention to be held in Jeonbuk in October.

In addition, after watching the Jeonbuk team’s match and cheering them on enthusiastically, he attended the ‘Korea Day’ event, which was an important event that introduced Korean culture and sports to the world for Olympic athletes and spectators from each country.

As the last stop on the schedule, the Jeonbuk Diplomatic Corps visited OP Mobility (formerly Plastic Omnium), which is establishing a hydrogen fuel tank production plant in the Jeonbuk Wanju Techno Valley 2nd Industrial Complex, to hear about the company and its investment status and discuss future mutual cooperation plans.

OP Mobility, which was established in Paris in 1946, is the world’s leading company in the large plastic parts industry, having built 137 factories worldwide. In recent years, it has expanded its investment in the hydrogen sector, and in January 2023, it signed an investment agreement to build a high-pressure hydrogen fuel tank production plant in Wanju Techno Valley 2nd Industrial Complex, and construction is currently in full swing.
