The MICE industry is a representative high value-added tourism industry in which the average spending per event participant is about twice that of general tourists, and it continues to attract interest and investment not only domestically but also around the world due to its high synergy effect between regional key industries and high contribution to job creation.

Beginning with the enactment of the “Jeollabuk-do MICE Promotion Ordinance” in 2017, the Jeollabuk-do Special Self-Governing Province has been steadily laying the foundation for the promotion of the MICE industry, including the establishment of a comprehensive plan for the MICE industry, the launch of the Jeollabuk-do MICE Bureau, the MICE Academy professional training program, and the establishment of the “Jeollabuk-do Global MICE Promotion Center.”

Governor Kim Kwan-young said, “We will draw up a blueprint to revitalize Jeollabuk-do’s MICE industry by comprehensively considering the MICE infrastructure such as Jeonju Convention Center, Saemangeum International Airport and new port, and integrated resorts, as well as key industries such as secondary batteries, agriculture, bio, culture, and tourism, and the training of specialized personnel.”

He also said, “The future is not something that comes, but something that is created. Through the MICE industry, we will make Jeonbuk the center of innovation and growth in the Republic of Korea.”
