Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Governor Kim Kwan-young visited a construction site to inspect the workers’ response to the heat wave. As the heat wave warning continues across the province, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Governor Kim Kwan-young visited a construction site to personally inspect worker protection measures, work environments to prevent major accidents, and heat shelters.

The Jeonbuk Autonomous Province announced that on the 6th, Governor Kim Kwan-young of the Jeonbuk Autonomous Province and Mayor Woo Beom-ki of Jeonju visited the construction site of the Jeonju Eco City neighborhood living facility and conducted safety inspections to check the working environment of workers on site, manage safety in preparation for heat waves, and prevent major disasters.

Governor Kim said at the event, “Outdoor workers are vulnerable to heat waves, so business managers should pay special attention to prevent heat-related illnesses among workers,” and “Please do your best to prevent various safety accidents and major disasters caused by heat waves.”

In particular, in order to prevent heat wave damage during the heat wave vulnerable time from 2 PM to 5 PM, workers should actively comply with the heat-related illness prevention guide (water, shade, rest), and at the workplace level, construction hours should be adjusted during the severe heat wave stage and shelters should be provided for workers to rest, thereby emphasizing the creation of a safe working environment so that workers on-site are not exposed to the risk of heat waves.

Governor Kim also visited the Hyundai 3rd Apartment Complex, which has been designated as a heat shelter, to check on the operation of the air conditioning facilities and communicate with residents. He said, “We will make sure that the heat shelter maintains an appropriate indoor temperature (26-28℃) and operates 24 hours a day to ensure that it becomes a place where people can escape the heat during extreme heat.”

The province plans to provide an additional KRW 100,000 in support on top of the KRW 350,000 already paid for two months of cooling costs to help operate 4,850 community centers and senior centers designated as heat shelters 24 hours a day due to the ongoing heat wave this year.

In addition, we plan to provide an additional 84 million won to 9 cities and counties to promote the ice water sharing project.

Governor Kim said, “As natural disasters such as heat waves are increasing significantly due to climate change, thorough preparation for disaster prevention is the first step to preventing safety accidents and major disasters,” and ordered, “Related organizations should join forces and make every effort to reduce human casualties to zero.”

In addition, he said, “I urge citizens to familiarize themselves with and practice the behavioral guidelines to safely spend the hot summer, as heat waves can have serious impacts on health.”
