The number of visitors to the Jeonbuk Autonomous Province Shooting Range has skyrocketed thanks to the Paris Olympics Kim Ye-ji and Yang Ji-in effect. The Jeonbuk Autonomous Province Shooting Range in Imsil, Jeollabuk-do is smiling broadly these days thanks to the shooting athletes Kim Ye-ji (Imsil County Office) and Yang Ji-in, who rose to stardom at the Paris Olympics.
As athlete Kim Ye-ji gained fame with her Olympic silver medal and Elon Musk’s mention, the shooting range where Kim practiced is once again attracting attention as a local attraction.
Yang Ji-in, a native of Namwon who won the gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol event at the Paris Olympics, is also said to have dreamed of an Olympic medal while sweating bullets at this shooting range while attending Namwon Haneul Middle School.
According to the Jeonbuk Autonomous Province Shooting Range, the number of users, which stood at 1,300 and 1,500 in June and July, respectively, more than doubled to 3,800 in August.
Thanks to the popularity of Kim Ye-ji, who emerged as a surprise star in the advertising market, and gold medalist Yang Ji-in, the number of visitors to the shooting range this year is expected to increase significantly, far exceeding the number of visitors last year (24,000).
Lee Jae-cheon, the owner of the shooting range, said, “Since the news of Kim Ye-ji and Yang Ji-in’s medals, I’ve been busy answering phone calls as inquiries about using the shooting range have suddenly flooded in,” and “since it’s open to both professional shooters and the general public, the number of regular people visiting has increased significantly these days.”
Kim Ye-ji, who rose to stardom overnight after winning a medal and commented on a video of her chic shooting in the past, saying, “Kim Ye-ji should be cast in an action movie. She doesn’t need to act,” was recalled as a key member of the Imsil County Office shooting team.
The Imsil County Office team, which Kim Ye-ji is a member of after returning from the Paris Olympics, also won the team event at the Bonghwanggi National Shooting Competition held on the 20th of last month.
The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Shooting Training Center, which Kim has been using as a training ground for several years, is located in Cheongung-myeon, Imsil-gun.
It is one of the few shooting training facilities in Korea that can be used by both professional shooters and the general public. It was established here in 2003 and is now in its 21st year.
The comprehensive shooting range that used to be located near the Jeonju Zoo was relocated to Imsil due to aging.
This training center, built on a site of approximately 40,000 pyeong, has 10M, 25M, and 50M indoor shooting ranges as well as an outdoor clay shooting range.
The general public can also experience the 10M air gun shooting range and the outdoor Clay A and Clay B shooting ranges.
It provides an environment where elite athletes such as Kim Ye-ji can train systematically, and is often used as a training camp for domestic college professional shooters.
It is located in a quiet place surrounded by forested mountains and is considered an ideal location for shooting training that requires high concentration.
A training center official said, “It is one of the few places in Korea where anyone can enjoy shooting, not just elite shooters but also the general public,” adding, “Thanks to the popularity of Kim Ye-ji, we hope this place becomes more well-known nationwide and many people will come and enjoy shooting.”
