The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province is stepping up to support R&D for the promotion of the bio industry. The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Kwan-young) and Jeonbuk Technopark (Director Lee Kyu-taek) announced the ‘2024 Advanced Bio-Fostering R&D Support Project’ on August 1 (Thursday) to lay the foundation for the promotion of the advanced bio-industry in Jeonbuk and the new growth industrialization of advanced bio-regenerative medicine.

The ‘Advanced Bio-Fostering R&D Support Project’ is a support project to discover and attract leading companies in core technologies and strengthen the continuous value chain based on the advanced bio-industry conditions of Jeonbuk Province. It supports the fields of national strategic technology (bio), advanced bio-regenerative medicine, and advanced bio-fusion.

In 24 years, the government has drastically cut the R&D budget, but Jeonbuk Autonomous Province is expanding support for the bio sector through projects such as the ‘Bio Regional Industry Capacity Building Support Project’ and the ‘Advanced Bio Fostering R&D Support Project’ to foster the bio industry and create a corporate ecosystem.

This project can be applied for as the lead organization by companies located in the province that are engaged in the bio industry and have a corporate research institute or research department, and government-funded research institutes, related research institutes, universities, and companies can participate as participating organizations. However, companies located outside the province can also temporarily apply for companies that have signed investment agreements with Jeonju City, Iksan City, and Jeongeup City.

The types of support are △ Advanced bio R&D △ Bio-fusion R&D △ Global cooperation Pre-R&D. △ Advanced bio R&D supports national strategic technology (bio) and advanced bio-regenerative medicine fields, and △ Bio-fusion R&D supports convergence fields such as health functional foods and medical devices. Global cooperation Pre-R&D supports global cooperation pre-R&D in cooperation with overseas research institutes, etc. The advanced bio R&D type will be supported with a project cost of up to 300 million won/year, bio-fusion R&D with a project cost of up to 200 million won, and global cooperation Pre-R&D with a project cost of up to 100 million won.

In particular, for advanced bio R&D, support will be provided for up to 36 months, taking into account the cost and time required for the development process and clinical trials for advanced technology development such as gene therapy and regenerative therapy.

Companies wishing to participate in the project can apply online through the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Science and Technology Information System from 4:00 PM on Wednesday, August 21 to Friday, August 30.

Jeonbuk Autonomous Province Bio-Defense Industry Division Chief Yoon Se-young said, “We hope that this ‘Advanced Bio-Fostering R&D Support Project’ will lead to leading domestic bio companies entering the province. We will strive to foster the foundation of the advanced bio industry so that our companies can reach their heyday (companies that will succeed in Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province) and become the main players in Jeonbuk Autonomous Province’s economic growth.”
