Jeong Bong-ju, the candidate for the Supreme Council of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 13th, “I warn against causing discord and division among party members.” This is interpreted as an attempt to resolve the situation after his hard-line supporters demanded the resignation of the candidate over the ‘elimination of Lee Jae-myung’s followers.’

Candidate Jeong said this on his Facebook page on the same day, asking party members to “break this malicious frame that tries to divide us at every opportunity.”

He explained, “This is Jeong Bong-ju who was saved by party members,” and “this is the Jeong Bong-ju who demanded an immediate apology for candidate Kim Du-gwan’s ‘dog daughter’ remark during the party convention.”

He continued, “How could the daughters and party members who desperately want to protect candidate Lee Jae-myung be Lee Jae-myung’s followers?” He claimed, “This is a clear warning to a few extremely small numbers of people who are hiding behind the curtain, exploiting this precious passion and sincerity, and selling out Lee Jae-myung’s name to establish their own power, a handful of Lee Jae-myung’s followers.”

He also said, “We have the painful experience of defeat due to internal factional politics and the resulting emotional dregs,” and “The biggest cause of the 0.73% defeat (in the last presidential election) was internal division and factional politics.”

He emphasized, “Lee Jae-myung’s Democratic Party must be a faction-free Democratic Party,” and “As a supreme member of the Democratic Party under Lee Jae-myung, I will work with all leadership to create a culture and system that can fundamentally block factional politics solely for the victory of the Democratic Party.”

Earlier, candidate Jeong held a press conference the day before and emphasized, “We must cut out the cancerous group of Lee Jae-myung followers within the party who are hindering unification,” and “If we continue to neglect these Lee Jae-myung followers as they are now, unification, impeachment, and regaining power will be difficult.”

Although Lee Jae-myung-pal did not specify who he was, it was interpreted both inside and outside the party as a strong pro-Myung faction (pro-Lee Jae-myung). Accordingly, people are calling for candidate Jeong to voluntarily resign, mainly online.
